Emergency Severity Index
The Emergency Severity Index (ESI) consists of a classification according to severity.
The evaluation of the patient admitted to the emergency department is carried out in a short time and focused on the user, who is assigned a severity level ranging from 1, corresponding to a life-threatening patient, to 5, which corresponds to a patient who can wait.
This classification is characterized by providing fair care, according to the urgency of the patient's clinical condition, in addition to attending the user by severity and not on a first-come, first-served basis.
